Game Information
The concept for Xen the Alien was formulated for The Game Creators 2003 Alienware Competition, but my ambitions for the game were too high to accommodate both the scope and deadline of the competition. As a result, the game was not completed in time and was eventually scrapped. 4 years later, in 2007, the game was revived and is now back on track.

Developement Progress

25/05/2008 - Project Revived
The XTA project was revived about a year ago after i decided to use the old game media to test out my new game engine. I since decided to complete a technical demo showcasing my original vision of the look, feel and play of XTA. The original game was created using Dark Basic Classic and DirectX7 (a good indication of how old the game is), this time around it's being developed using DarkGDK and DirectX9.

01/01/2004 - Project Terminated
Developement on this game was permanently suspended about a year ago. The games production dragged on for too long and during the time it's foundation technology slowly became more and more apparently inadequate. I will however release several items like the games design document, demo and source code for public use.

2003 Version Screenshots
These shots were taken in-game and they showcase the art style, environments and some of the vehicles found in the game. The 2003 version was developed using Dark Basic Classic & DirectX7. It included an editor created using Visual Basic for designing the stages.

2007 Version Screenshots
These shots are taken from the latest version of the game developed using DarkGDK and DirectX9. The project is in its Alpha stage and is a work in progress so the screenshots shown below do not represent the quality of the final product.

Xen the Alien Logo Intro
One requirement of the competition was that the Alienware logo had to be visible on the splash screen of the game. I came up with a pretty nifty way of doing it, i'll let you decide for yourself how well the idea was executed.

Design Document and Demo
Having set this game aside to work on other bigger and better projects i decided to write a detailed design document to outline what i initially intented for the game from it's origin. The game's design document basically describes the game in general, taking a look at it's features, foundation engine, characters, weapons, locations and even a game editor for creating your own custom stages. Finally it introduces the game prototype or demo that i started creating with the intention of entering it for the Alienware competition. The design document and demo can be downloaded below.
